Professor Luke Charter is a Graduate Gemologist and Registered Gemologist Appraiser and is President of both the African Gem Society and Gemmological Society of South Africa as well as Laboratory Director of the Gemmology Institute of Southern Africa, recognised by and associated with SEAMIC (the Southern and Eastern African Mineral Information Centre) - a regional United Nations established and managed organisation and HRD Antwerp, the Diamond High Council, among others.
Professor Charter is also a member various trade organisations including:
